Land Clearing Commitments
3KM in 3 Days
Before we could even start the farming process and the project to establish our fruit propagation center we had to clear the rough local terrain en route to our chosen farm plots. This was a crucial moment when people could have easily lost faith in the entire project so extensive was the work with no immediate benefit. Also, in this case, the route stretched 3km all the way toward the river and was choked with wild and tough inedible grasses that it impossible for vehicles to maneuver or for daily foot traffic. Especially in the East African heat.
John Bossuyt described what happened next: “They people gathered and excitedly pledged "we have decided to create a roadway for this project!" And they did! By hand and with rudimentary tools. Their efforts on this day showed a serious commitment and community excitement for change.
